How to Reach Pangong Tso

By Air

The nearest airport from Pangong Lake is the Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. There are regular flights from Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar.

By Train

Kalka or Jammu serves as the nearest railway station to Pangong. You can easily travel to Pangong from here via cabs or taxi. There are daily trains to Jammu from Delhi and Mumbai Central.

By Bus

Pangong is 5 hour away from Leh. There are regular buses served by the JKSRTC bus operators, from Leh to Pangong. Deluxe coaches are also available from Leh to Pangong.

By Car

the roads are quite bumpy, but you can also drive to Pangong from Leh to Changla Pass and Tungsten. It is just a 5 hour drive away.


Best Time To Visit Pangong Tso

Summer Season (March- June)

The summer season that is from March to June is the best time to book Pangong tour packages as the place blooms with flowers and colours. The snow is all thawed up and the view becomes more vivid and clear. During March and April the temperature is still low i.e. 5oC-7oC. Later the temperature might rise to 15oC-30oC. Therefore, it is the ideal time to visit this place.

Monsoon season (July- September)

From July to mid-September, the place sees heavy rainfall. It is a risky time to visit the lake, due to the frequent showers and landslides and snow slides. There are chances of road blockages, during this time of the year. Therefore, it is not recommended to visit during this season.

Winter Season (October-February)

The winter season actually starts from November, thus from mid-September to October is also a good time to visit. The early winters have a pleasant climate and comfortable temperatures. But the arrival of November, starts to freeze the place. During this time the temperature reaches sub-zero. People who are confident about beating the cold, can visit during this time of the year. Soon after mid-January, the lake starts to freeze.


Places To Visit in Pangong

Tangste Gompa

It is a popular Buddhist monastery on the route to Pangong Tso. It is the home to the ‘talking statue’ of Kyoba Rimpoche. The serenity and calmness of this place attracts thousands of people to this petite, quiet monastery. Thus this a must visit place for a peaceful retreat and away from the hustle bustle of the city.

Chang La Pass

The Chang La is a high mountain pass in Ladakh. It is the third highest motor-able road in the world. Although the climb is quite steep and requires careful driving, people around the country come here to drive through the pass. It is a great place for bike ride lovers.

Spangmik Village

The Spangmik village is a picturesque dwelling along the banks of the Pangong Lake. This village stretches between the Chang Chenmo mountain range and the Pangong Lake. This place offers a captivating view during the sunrise and sunset hours. So if you are visiting the Pangong Lake, it is recommended to spend a night at this tiny village, near the Tibetan border.

Thiksey Monastery

It is another Buddhist monastery located on the top of the Thiksey hill. It is the largest monastery in central Ladakh. It is also known as ‘Mini Potala’. So visit this serene place for a relaxing vacation and connecting to yourself as a part of the Pangong tour packages.

Chang-Chenmo Mountain Range
