How to Reach the Andaman Islands?

In spite of its proximity to Myanmar and Thailand, Andaman is politically a part of India. Thus, Indian citizens don’t require a passport for Andaman. However, if you are planning to visit Jolly Buoy Island, Redskin Island and Cinque Island; then do remember to carry your passport before leaving for the  Andaman holidays .

There are two ways to reach Andaman, that’s, either  by Air or by Sea . There is no rail connectivity to this island.

By Air

There are direct flights to Port Blair from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Bangalore. One can also take a direct flight from Visakhapatnam but they fly on certain days. Foreign charter flights are also permitted to land at Port Blair subjected to the fulfillment of guidelines. If you are taking a flight from Delhi & Mumbai then your travel time will be 5 hours, whereas, the same from Kolkata & Chennai will be 2 hours.

By Sea

Ships for the Andaman Islands sail from Chennai, Vizag, and Kolkata and the voyage takes around 60-70 hours (3-4 days). There are 3-4 sailings every month from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair and one single monthly sailing from Visakhapatnam. These ships are operated by the Government of India.
